What is a TXT file and how to open it?

TXT refers to a Text file, which is a standard text document that includes the unformatted text files. It is acknowledged by any of the text editing or a word processing application that can also be processed by most of the other software applications. TXT files are mostly generated and opened by using Microsoft Notepad and Apple TextEdit. These files are used for storing the information in Plain Text without using any special formatting beyond basic fonts and font styles.

Text files are generally used for recording notes, directions, and other similar documents that do not require to appear in a specific way. If you are planning to create a document with more formatting capabilities, like the report, newsletter, or resume, you should have a look on the DOCX file, the most popular Microsoft Word application uses that.
